2024 Belfast
Christmas Adventure
I went to Belfast, Northern Ireland at Christmas time, 2024 as part of my 2024 Lucky 13th British Isles Christmas Adventure. I arrived on Christmas Eve and left December 28th. Belfast honors working women with statues of hardworking women around the city. To the left is a seamstress and an office worker. Notice the typewriter and telephone in the statue of the office worker.
To the right is the Beacon of Hope sculpture. Built in 2007, she holds up the ring of Thanksgiving.
Below left
is a mural on part of the wall that separated Protestant and Catholic parts of Belfast. Violence regularly occurred between them and walls were necessary to separate them. Now, people seem to get along better and the mural commemorates some of the Troubles. Below right is the Europa Hotel which was the most bombed hotel in Europe due to the violence between Catholics and Protestants. |
